| Biographical Information
Lawrence grew up in Montreal, Canada and began his photo career in
the early 1990's.
At the time, he had the unique opportunity to be assistant
to west coast photographer Morley
Baer, in Carmel, California.
For three years, Morley and Lawrence spent their days driving up and down the dramatic Big Sur coast looking for precise qualities of light and shadow that Morley would transform into unique expressions of California.
Morley's passion for photographing the rolling coastal hills and
rocky coastline in and around the Monterey Peninsula left an indelible
mark on Lawrence's perception and laid the foundation for him to
discover his own unique vision.
Lawrence then shifted gears in order to pursue other passions, namely environmental issues and international development.
He completed graduate school and took a post as a communications officer in a department of the United Nations Environment Programme in Norway.
Over five years he led successful projects that allowed him to hire highly skilled staff and expand his project portfolio. Leading an imaginative team of media and communication experts, he supervised the creation
of innovative outreach materials highlighting some of the
more critical environmental issues facing the planet - climate change,
water pollution, hazardous waste, etc.
The work also
allowed Lawrence to travel to a variety of unusual countries in some of the most challenged parts of the world and witness first hand environmental catastrophes and the impact of human development on the environment.
After five years of challenging and enjoyable work, Lawrence was ready for another move. In the autumn of 2003 he moved to Vancouver, Canada to get additional business and media education.
Since completing these courses Lawrence is engaged once again in producing new architectural and landscape photos, and uses the accumulation of his skills and experience
to create unique images focusing on the human/natural environment.
